In the Spotlight

During the off-season (Dec. – April), two teams will be chosen each month to share their 2014 highlights and 2015 goals.

Sun Prairie Composite Team

2014 SPHS MTB Team

December 2014

Coach: Doug Rodenkirch | Email: sunprairiemtb@gmail.com

— Team Members Favorite Practice Drill: Braking/Cornering Drills

— Team Members Favorite Race Venue: Mt. Morris

— Most Favorite Moment:  It is hard to pick out a single team moment as most of the memorable moments happen to individuals as they gain more confidence in their skill and abilities. As a coach it is very noticeable when a student/athlete recognizes that they can do this and do it well.

— Team Goal for 2015: The goal for 2015 is to introduce more students to the sport of mountain biking.  We will most definitely give more focus on conditioning for the team members.

La Crosse Composite Team

La Crosse Team at Cascade

December 2014

Coach: Josh Shively | Email: jshively@charter.net

— Local High Schools: Central, Logan, Onalaska, Holmen, Westby

— Team Members Favorite Practice Drill:Tie between hill repeats on the Vista Trail and the “slow race”.

— Team Members Favorite Race Venue:Minooka Park

— Most Favorite Moments: The most memorable moments happened around the campfire, from s’mores, to George and Nate somehow breaking a camp chair and keeping everyone in stitches, to playing ghosts in the graveyard. As far as racing goes, the freshman boys were super-excited to finish 5, 6, and 8 at the final race, after riding together and pushing each other all season. It was fun to watch the middle school girls, Ava and Avery, riding and talking with their new friend Abby, from Camrock, during the entire Mt. Morris race, only to sprint it out in the final hundred yards. The girls hung out the entire rest of the day and couldn’t wait to get together again at Cascade.

— Team Goal for 2015: Increase our participation numbers, improve upon our 4th place team placing in the series, and continue to have fun.
